Routine health screening isn’t a popular practice in this part of the world. However, it is important to know that early detection of any illness saves lives.
Here are 5 medical check-ups every woman should do regularly.
1. Cholesterol Check
This assesses the possibility of developing heart problems or stroke. Frequency of this check should be at least once every 5 years.
2. Mammogram
This is simply an x-ray of the breasts. It is done to detect breast cancer, tumours, lumps or cysts in the breasts. You can also opt for regular hand examination of the breast to feel if there is any change in the breasts.
3. Pap Smear
It is advised for women above 20 years of age to observe this check every 3 years. A pap smear test for precancerous cells in the cervix helps detect the possibility of cervical cancer early.
4. Blood Pressure Screening
This is the only way to detect High or Low blood pressure. You need to monitor your blood pressure regularly as the higher the blood pressure, the greater the chances of having heart problems.
5. Glucose Test
Blood glucose level test is used to detect diabetes or prediabetes. This test is even more important if any one in your family is diabetic. This result will determine the dietary changes your doctor will recommend.
