Let’s talk Contractions

So it’s Thursday, let’s take it back to Contractions and Labour phases.

Mums, you know how eager you get in the last month of pregnancy and reading meaning to every symptom? Yes, that was me! (maybe a little more 🤣). I’m sure Google got tired of my daily search for symptoms of Contraction, how does contraction feel? Pictures of mucus plug…smh.

I once mentioned it to the Matron in my hospital that how will I know it’s time to come to the hospital. She simply smiled and said; nobody will need to tell you. You’ll know!… Oh yes, I did know.😓 As at 2 days before my delivery, I was feeling totally normal. Let me confess, I had tried every natural way to induce Labour (pineapple, walks, warm water massage), but here I was 2 days to my EDD still very #preggo mtchew.
I remember dancing so much in church that particular Thursday evening…I canno come and kill myself. I totally took my mind off it and zeroed in that I was going to be late…I was wrong.

On our way home that night, I felt a sharp contraction and I let out a loud scream. Excitedly I told my husband, this is it…but it wasn’t. After that first contraction, nothing happened. Let’s just say I had a good night rest that night against my wish. I wanted to be in the labour room pushing and having my baby so bad!

As I got dressed for my hospital routine check the following morning, I felt another Contraction! I hoped again that it was happening..this time, it was! It became more consistent but it was lasting for just 15 secs and about 10 minutes apart. I was told at the hospital to hurry in when I start having contractions that last 1 minute, occurs every 5 minutes and consistent for one hour.
To answer the question of what contraction feels like, if you are in late pregnancy, you most likely are experiencing Braxton Hikes already (sudden tightness of the stomach), Contraction feels like that just stronger. Let’s leave it there. I’m not about to scare you. Everybody’s experience is different.

Read about Labour phases in my next post.

Mums, how did you know it was time? We have some mums-to-be here who can learn from your experiences.
