Is pineapple safe to eat in pregnancy? The simple answer is Yes. You may have been told to stay away from the fruit because it can cause early miscarriage but this is nothing but a myth.

Pineapple is high in fiber and vitamins, making it an ideal food to consume during pregnancy. However, it does contain  bromelain, a type of enzyme; Bromelain is a protein-digesting enzyme combination generated from the pineapple plant’s stem, fruit, and juice.

Despite the fact that it is produced from pineapple, eating pineapple or drinking pineapple juice does not provide a sufficient amount to be effective. Bromelain tablets are not advised to be taken during pregnancy. They can cause irregular bleeding by breaking down proteins in the body.

Key Note: Regular consumption of pineapple is very  unlikely to harm your pregnancy.

Is it okay then to add Pineapple to your Pregnancy Diet?

Yes, it is except your doctor says otherwise or you have allergic reactions to it. NHS recommends that the ideal pregnancy diet is made up of foods from the following five groups:

  • Fruits
  • Vegetables
  • Protein
  • Dairy
  • Grains

These foods provide your baby with the vitamins and minerals he or she requires to grow and develop. You should try to consume a robust variety of healthy, nutrient-dense foods. Also, drink plenty of water.
