We get so excited about the baby that we forget that new moms need a few supplies too! These postpartum essentials are everything you need (basics) as a new mum.
1. Breast Pump
Breast pump makes your life easier as a new mum. Once you have enough breastmilk pumped, you can get some rest while someone else feeds your baby. So buying a good breast pump is buying yourself some rest and sanity.
2. Breast Pads
Leaking breast comes with breastfeeding so you need breast pads to absorb the breastmilk in case you have a let down. Especially when you are outdoors.
3. Heating Pads
Having a heating pad or hot water bottle will help relieve the pain and cramps that you’ll experience after delivery.
4. Nipple Cream
Skin surrounding your nipples can be soothed and healed with nipple creams. Breastfeeding can cause cracks, blisters, itching, and even bleeding in the first few weeks while your body adjusts to feeding your baby, so any relief is welcome!
5. Nipple Shield
If you feel pain while breastfeeding due to your baby’s bites, a nipple shield will work wonders for you. It serves as a barrier between your nipple and your baby’s mouth. And for a lot of mothers, this is key to long-haul breastfeeding. The shields are designed to mimic the shape of a natural nipple, making the experience easier.
6. Healthy Meals
This is a non-negotiable. Mothers lose a lot of blood and strength during delivery which must be replenished by eating nutrient-dense healthy meals. With breastfeeding, You’re not only giving your baby all the nourishment they need to grow, you are also giving your baby protection from a variety of infections and illnesses by boosting their immunity with breastmilk.
7. Maternity Pads
Maternity pads are longer, softer, and more absorbent than regular pads. Because they don’t have the plastic coating that many ordinary sanitary towels do, they’re less prone to irritate stitches. The reason you’ll need so many pads is that when your baby is born, bleeding from your womb (uterus) will begin and last for an average of 10 days.
