If you are reading this article, then chances are you are pregnant. Congratulations! I know it can be overwhelming trying to figure out what to pack in your hospital bag especially if you are not given a list at the hospital. Don’t worry, I got you! 🙂
What to take to the hospital for labour varies based on different hospital policies. However, this list will guide you and help set basic expectations.
1. A pair of sleepsuits
Your baby will live in these for many months to come. For the hospital trip, you don’t need more than two of these between delivery and discharge day.
2. Going Home Outfit
Depending on the sex of the baby, pack an appropriate outfit for going home from the hospital. The go to outfit is usually a bodysuit and trousers. For a baby girl, you can pack a lovely 0-3 months dress.
3. Socks
Pack at least 3 pairs of these. Your baby shouldn’t catch a cold this early.
4. Methylated spirit and cotton wool
This will be used to clean the umbilical cord after it has been camped with a peg. You need a roll of cotton wool as well for the same purpose.
5. Diaper
You need a pack of baby diapers. Size one or two depending on the size of your baby.
6. Baby wipes
Pack one baby wipes in your hospital bag. You will be shocked at how useful and handy it will be!
7. Grooming kit
Pack your baby soap, baby lotion, powder, oil wash clothes and towel for your baby’s first bath. Yippee!
8. Flannel
This is like a receiving blanket. Something cozy to wrap your baby in after bath.
9. Baby net
You really don’t want to start dealing with malaria just yet. Remember to pack up your baby net to cover the cot at the hospital.Keep out mosquitoes.
10. Thermometer
This will be used to measure your baby’s body temperature from time to time. Make sure you store away carefully when leaving for home. You will still need it in the nearest future.
