There is no such thing as a perfect mum (or parent), but we can try our best to keep our environment baby friendly. These 7 negligible things can harm a baby if not carefully attended to. You need to childproof your house.
1. Tablets
Move all medicines, sterilizing tablets, beauty products, cleaning products, and gardening products out of sight and reach of young children. They tend to put everything in their mouth and some of this items can be poisonous if ingested.
2. Electric Outlets
It’s easy to overlook electric sockets and focus on the ‘really harmful things’, but this is a dangerous source of electrocution if an accident occurs. Exposed outlets should be covered with plastic caps. Also, try tucking every wire away.
3. Bathtub
After pools, bathtubs are the most common source of drowning in children. Once your baby becomes mobile, you need to always keep your bathrooms safely locked when not in use.
4. Glass Furniture
For a toddler learning to walk, glass is a dangerous item to have around. Coffee tables, centre tables, stools, TV stands, and other glass furniture should not be made with non-tempered glass, which is easily shattered when knocked off. Also, place edge guards to the table edges in case your baby bumps into them.
5. Dustbins
As negligible as this sounds, it can be dangerous around children. Chemicals, batteries, spoilt food, sharp objects, and so many other non-baby friendly items can be found in the trash can. Enter your bin as often as possible, keep it as clean as you can and try to keep your baby away from it as much as possible.
6. Baby walker
Surprised? Walkers are dangerous if use is not well managed and supervised by an adult. Some of the risks a walker poses are baby falling off the stairs which can lead to serious head injuries or even death, tipping over and many more. Keep all doors shut, all electronic outlets closed and all floors dry when your baby is playing with her walker.
7. Hot Surfaces &appliances
Hot plates, kettles, irons, hairdryer, hair straightener, and other hot surfaces and appliances should be kept out of yor babies reach to avoid burns and accidents.
