How Big Is Baby at 13 Weeks?

At 13 weeks pregnant, baby is as big as a lemon. Your 13-week fetus is about 2.9 inches long and weighs about .81 ounces, and proportion-wise, his or her head is now about 1/3 the size of the body instead of ½. Your baby’s lungs are also developing and in week 13 they’ll start to take their first few ‘breaths’. At this stage, their kidneys are functioning and any amniotic fluid your baby swallows, they will wee out.

You are probably feeling a lot more confident and secure in your pregnancy now you have reached the 13 week mark and your chances of miscarriage are greatly reduced. It is probably also something of a relief to be sharing your news with your wider circle of friends.

You should be feeling a lot better generally now as your placenta takes over the production of pregnancy hormones, which should ease any nausea. You might even feel you are taking on a bit of a pregnancy bloom as your enter your second trimester!

13 WEEKS PREGNANT SYMPTOMS

  • Visible veins:

You can see all those blue streaks under your skin because you have increased blood flow.

  • Decreasing Fatigue:

Now that your body has had a trimester to adjust to pregnancy, you may be starting to feel a little less tired these days. Consider channeling your newfound energy into your workout routine — but don’t overdo it!

  • Heartburn & Indigestion:

During pregnancy, the muscle at the top of the stomach relaxes, allowing digestive acids to rise up into the esophagus — causing a burning in the chest. Reduce the pain by staying away from these heartburn triggers: alcohol, caffeinated drinks, chocolate, mint, citrus and spicy or fatty foods.

  • Higher sex drive:

As you creep into your second trimester it’s not uncommon to feel an increase in your sex drive (but perfectly normal if you don’t). It might be the first time you’ve felt like sex in a while! Your energy in general will start to increase in your second trimester which can explain why your sex drive increases. It’s perfectly safe to enjoy a healthy sex life during your pregnancy, while you feel like it anyway!

  • Constipation:

Your bowel muscles also relax during pregnancy (due to hormones), which means your bowels will be less efficient at moving waste out of your system. If you find yourself backed up, slowly start adding more high-fiber foods to your diet (fruits, vegetables and whole grains are good picks).
