Sex after delivery (especially if you were stitched) can be scary. Very scary. These 5 tips below will prepare you better on what to expect and how to manage them.
Childbirth takes a toil on everything, and that different includes your libido. A tiny percentage of women swear that childbirth increased their libido while majority are just too tired to even think about it.
1. Be physically ready
Let’s say you have the physical strength for it and you are mentally ready, You can start having intercourse after you’ve healed from delivery – usually four to six weeks after giving birth. Get a clearance from your doctor to be sure you are fit for it and not at risk of any complication.
After your doctor has given his or her blessings, you still need to take things slow. Remember, you just delivered a baby and your body is just getting used to the new normal.
2. Be mentally prepared
If you have fears, let your partner know, it will help him go easy on you and help you past your fears. Apart from been physically sound, you need to be in the right frame of mind. Take as much time as you need to.
3. Start with Foreplay
Start with kissing or touching each other in a loving way, and work your way up to post-delivery sex when you’re ready
4. Use a lubricant
You may need a little help with lubrication as your hormones readjust. Look for a water-based option. Oil-based lubes can damage condoms and irritate sensitive tissue.
5. Plan It
With a newborn in the house, it is easy to get buried in activities. Make time for bonding and sex with your partner, if need be, set a time and plan it.
