Linea Nigra: All You Need To Know About Your Pregnancy Line
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Fun fact: 75 percent of women  will experience the linea nigra during pregnancy. Surprised?

linea nigra pregnancy line

Linea Nigra  popularly known as known as Pregnancy line is nothing to get worried about. Instead, it is a natural pregnancy effect. It’s a sign that your pregnancy hormones are in full gear. That’s all. There is an old wives tale that says the dark line can be used to predict the gender of the baby. They say if the line ends on the belly button, you are having a girl and if the line goes all the way up to the rib cage, you are carrying a boy. This is just a tale and not backed by any scientific proof.

The pregnancy line or linea nigra usually grows darker as your pregnancy develops. Although it can show earlier, this pregnancy line typically shows up around the 5th month of pregnancy and clears out after pregnancy for most women. It lessens shortly after birth and hen gradually fades out.

Although rare, but it is not impossible for the linea nigra to remain on he belly permanently. If this is the case for you, take it as a mark of love to remind you of the magic you carried and gave birth to.
