Baby Care Guide: How To Treat Bug Bites In Babies
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Has your baby been bitten by a bug or mosquitoes? Your baby won’t probably notice when the bugs are bitting, it’s the itching afterwards that will bother him a lot.

Here are some tips for treating mosquito bites and keeping those itches away.

1. Head off swelling

Did you notice a mosquito on your baby or toddler, brush it off and apply ice to the spot or skin area immediately. this prevents swelling and itching.

2. Ease itching

Is the spot swollen and itchy already? Apply calamine lotion or hydrocortisone cream to treat the bite as needed.

3. Avoid scratching

This will be a tough call but your little one’s sharp fingernails can break the skin around the bites, hereby, letting bacteria in.

4. Trim his fingernails

Cut them as short as possible to prevent skin breaking if the spot is scratched.

5. Watch out for illness symptoms

Pay attention to possible illness symptoms after a bite. Symptoms like headache, fever, vomiting and weakness. If you noice any of these, let him see his doctor. Also watch of for infection signs like pus, and redness of the area.
