A new baby’s skin is prone to rashes, peeling and other skin conditions. Fortunately, many of them clear out on their own without you having to do much.
It is normal to be disturbed by a strange rash covering your newborn’s body just within days after birth. Get familiar with the most common newborn rashes and how to manage them.
1. Milia
These are tiny white bumps that appear on a newborn’s body. They are caused by blocked oil glands. Once your baby’s oil glands open up in a few weeks, they will clear out. Just keep the surface area clean.
2. Cradle Cap
This appears on the baby’s scalp and may be red, crusty or scaly. Speak to your baby’s doctor on medications depending on the symptoms.
3. Eczema
This usually appears as red, itchy patches on the baby’s body. Eczema is caused by dry sensitive skin or allergy. It is often found on the baby’s chest, arms, legs, face, elbows, and behind the knees.
4. Heat Rashes
This occurs when sweat is trapped under the skin due to blocked pores during hot weather. Heat rashes appears as tiny blisters on newborns. Avoid overdressing your baby and keep the area dry.
5. Skin Peeling
Skin peeling is very common in newborns but more noticeable in babies born late. The skin layer peels to reveal a soft, normal and healthy skin.
