Most women end up with stretch marks during pregnancy. The belly is rapidly expanding to accommodate a growing baby so the skin is put under pressure to expand. Stretch marks are most common on the belly, buttocks, thighs, hips, and breasts.

This type of scarring happens when the skin cannot resume normal form after a period of intense growth, often due to pregnancy, weight gain, weight loss. When the elastic supportive tissue under the skin is put under pressure, stretch marks occur.

Stretch mark creams and home remedies may not be effective to completely wipe out stretch marks, but taking proper care of skin can help it look and feel its best. Keep your skin moisturized from inside and out.

These 5 tips will help with your stretch marks.

1. Time

Stretch marks often fade over time and become unnoticeable even if they remain. For women who develop stretch marks in pregnancy, they may become less noticeable around 6 to 12 months after giving birth.

1. Shea Butter

Raw Shea butter can diminish the appearance and help to prevent the development of stretch marks.

2. Cocoa Butter

Cocoa Butter replenishes and repairs damages cells. It penetrates into the deeper layers of the skin and replenishes and repairs damaged cells. Cocoa butter may not clear stretch marks but it will sure make them look and feel better.

3. Aloe Vera

Popular for its healing component, Aloe Vera can also be used on stretch marks. While there is very little clinical evidence for aloe vera as a stretch mark cure, it is a natural healing agent and double as a good skin softener. Leave on the affected for one hour. Apply at least 3 times a week for a soft and radiant looking skin.

4. Olive Oil

Olive oil is one of the most popular and recommended oils for moisturizing.  Massage the affected area with warm olive oil. Warm up the olive oil and then apply on the stretch marks. Massage until the skin absorbs all the antioxidants and vitamins in the oil. It will make the stretch marks less noticeable and leave your skin hydrated and beautiful.

5. Sugar

Exfoliate with sugar or body scrub. Exfoliation naturally removes dead, dry skin to reveal a fresh and youthful skin.

  1. Mix one cup sugar with 1/4 cup of a softening agent, like almond oil or coconut oil, before mixing to the consistency of wet beach sand.
  2. Add some lemon juice.
  3. Scrub the mixture on the part of your body where the stretch marks are.
  4. Repeat several times a week while in the shower, making sure to rub the mixture on for 8-10 minutes.
