One of the most common questions I receive daily is; How much nourishment should my toddler have? Please note, I am not a nutrition expert. This is completely based on my experience with my toddler and feedbacks from several surveys I have conducted.
Let’s get to it!
I have read that The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that 1 year olds should consume about 900 calories per day, eating foods from different food groups. Here’s a breakdown of what 900 calories looks like;
1 cup of fruit
3/4 cup of vegetables
Approximately 60 grams grains (not to confusing you, about 4- 6 full tablespoons)
2 cups of dairy
28 grams of protein
Dietary fat needs of a one year old is high, so you can add a few teaspoons of healthy oils or oily foods like olive oil, mayonnaise, avocado).
Based on these proportions, some times our expectations of the quantity they need is far above what they really need to grow.
