Researchers say Children from strict homes where parents are highly controlling, manipulative and expect kids to follow all their rules without questions often turn out unruly, disrespectful and delinquent.
According to Parents.com, a child’s perception of her parents’ authority depends on the parenting style adopted by the Parents.
The three main parenting styles:
Authoritative parents
This is a good approach. Although Authoritative parents are demanding and controlling, they also ensure to establish a two-way communication pattern with their children to explain why certain rules are made and hear their children’s opinions about those rules. This parenting style lead kids to lack respect for their parents’ authority. These kids are more likely than others to engage in delinquent behaviors such as theft or underage drinking.

Authoritarian parents
Authoritarian Parents are also demanding and highly controlling. However, they neither explain their reasons for setting rules, nor open to hearing their kid’s opinions about the rules. As the child in this home, you always have two options, either your parent’s way, or your parent’s way. Lol! The authoritative style is the most successful; kids are more likely to listen to their parents, and are less likely to be delinquent.
Permissive parents
Permissive parents are not demanding or controlling. They are attentive to their children’s needs, but set few boundaries, which they hardly enforce. The children of permissive parents have less respect for their parents, but are not more or less likely to be delinquent.
