Introducing The Right Milk To Children: Formula, Cow Milk and Alternatives
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

I was discussing “milk for kids” last night with a friend and I thought to share here as well. Please tag a mum. She may need this.

1. Whole milk is not recommended for babies under 1 year old because your baby’s digestive system isn’t fully ready for it. Also it is not fortified with the nutrients an infant need for brain and body development. This can lead to Anemia( iron deficiency), especially if your baby is not eating enough iron-rich foods, such as meat, eggs and fortified cereals.
2. To avoid worrying about which milk is right and which isn’t, you can explore age appropriate options like Peak 123 @peak_milk  for ages 1-3 years and Peak 456 for ages 4- 6 years @peak456_milk
3. From 12 – 24 months, whole milk is very important because of the high fat content. This is needed for optimal brain development.
4. Between 1 – 2 years of age, milk intake should be approximately 480-520 ML per day. An exclusively breastfed baby may not accept cow’s milk right away—breastfeeding is still encouraged until two years of age or as long as you want to continue.
5. Serve milk in an open cup to encourage healthy cheek, bone and jaw development and healthier teeth. However, a sippy cup is fine as long as it doesn’t lead to over drinking.
Which milk do you serve your baby/toddler?
