Congratulations on your newborn!!! If you are reading this, you are probably sleep deprived. Sorry mama. Even though there is no quick fix to your newborn’s sleep routine, these 6 tips will help your baby adjust quickly!

It’s funny how the tables turn! When I had my Soshine, he never slept at night. He would sleep all day and stay up all night. I was sleep deprived, tired and exhausted. These 6 tips on how to make your baby sleep at night helped make things better.

6 Tips to make your baby sleep at night

1. Teach your baby how to self-settle

Get your baby used to the idea of a pacifier, soft blankets or stuffed animals so she can self-comfort. This will help your baby feel secure when she wakes up at night without necessarily crying for your attention. She’ll eventually self-settle if she is not hungry and her diaper is not wet.

2. Help your baby differentiate between night and day

Make a clear difference between night and day activities. At night, tiptoe if you must, whisper, reduce the smiles or avoid it totally if you can, turn off the light and lay in bed with your baby while during the day, you can play loud music, play and engage your baby, let lights in so your baby can gradually tell the difference.

3. Introduce a bedtime routine

Start a nightly ritual. Like a bath? Reading to your baby? Lullaby? or all three in one routine so your baby knows what to expect after these activities. Try to make it the same time every day if you can.

4. Get your baby used to white noise

If your baby wakes up at every slight sound, then it’s time to introduce white noise. A humming sound from a hair-dryer or air-conditioning unit, or you can even download a white noise soundtrack here.

5. Let your baby feed well through the day and before bedtime

One of the culprits that keep babies up at night is hunger. A hungry baby is an angry baby.
