Postinor 2, popularly called the morning after pill is an emergency contraceptive used to prevent pregnancy within 72 hours (3 days) after having unprotected sexual intercourse.
Postinor-2 should never be adapted as a long term contraceptive method. See other options here you can choose from.
Dosage
- Take one tablet as soon as possible. Make sure it is within 72 hours of unprotected intercourse. It has an 85% chance of preventing pregnancy when used within the first 24 hours.
- Take the second tablet 12 hours after the first dose
- If you vomit within 2 hours of taking a tablet, talk to your doctor before taking an additional tablet.
PLEASE NOTE
Postinor-2 cannot be taken under any of these conditions. Tell your doctor if you have any of the following:
- Current or suspected pregnancy;
- Unprotected intercourse more than 72 hours earlier in the same menstrual cycle;
- Unexplained vaginal bleeding;
- Breast cancer;
- Liver problems;
- Hypersensitivity to any ingredients.
- Breastfeeding: Postinor-2 is identified in breast milk. It is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women.
Common side effects are;
- Nausea, vomiting;
- Diarrhoea;
- Dizziness;
- Headache;
- Breast tenderness;
- Vaginal bleeding;
- Fatigue.
Uncommon side effects
Side effects which occur in less than 1% of patients are considered uncommon. Patients do not necessarily experience any of these side effects, so do not become alarmed by this list:
- Ectopic pregnancy;
- Acne;
- Symptoms of flu.
