Home Remedies For Dry Skin In Children

Worried that your baby’s skin is too dry? Just like adults, children can also suffer from dry, scaly and itchy skin rashes.

There are so many factors that can cause dry skin in children which include but not limited to; genes, air conditions, salt water and chlorinated pool water. If your baby has a dry skin, you are likely to notice dry patches, wrinkles, rough or flaking skin, white patches, chapped lips, cracked skin and scaly body.

Here are home remedies to prevent dry skin conditions in children.

1. Reduce Time Spent Bathing

Bathing generally dries skin both in adults and children as it removes the natural oil from the body along with the dirt. Avoid long bath time.

2. Avoid Hot Water

Use warm water instead. It will reduce the dryness of the skin

3, Pat Dry Don’t Rub

Pat your baby’s skin dry and don’t rub the towel aggressively as this causes more dryness and wrinkles

4. Moisturize

Immediately after drying the body, moisturize to lock in water on the skin. This should be done within 3 minutes after bath. Choose alcohol free based moisturizer. Feel free to add a few drops of oil (coconut oil preferably) to the moisturizer to make it greasy.

5. Use Fragrance Free Soap

It is key to go mild on the already sensitive skin. Opt for fragrance free mild soap to avoid irritation.

6. After swimming, rinse your baby’s body with tap water to wash off the chlorine water from the pool. Moisturize after.

7. Make sure your baby takes enough water

Drinking enough water will keep your child hydrated and this is key for a clear skin.
