Most Parents I know have a strong desire to raise their children to be godly – to be passionate about God and to achieve this, it takes involving God and also intentional Parenting.
We need to realize raising Godly children never happens by accident. Here are 7 tips for raising godly children.
1. Know the kind of adults you want your children to be and model them that way.
You should have a picture in mind of what or how you want your kids to turn out. Write out the key values and characteristics and how to achieve them. Instill these values deliberately.
2. Set boundaries early in life
Yes, people derail. But most often than not, people become a reflection of their childhood experiences. Set boundaries early in life and cultivate the habit of rewarding good deeds and frowning at “bad” actions. For example, when your toddler hits someone, don’t excuse it, make them say sorry. Gradually she’ll understand it is bad to hit people. Don’t be surprised if they start teaching their friends these values.
3. Practice what you preach
Don’t say no lies and lie in front of them. Don’t make empty threats. Model who you want them to become. Mirror the values you are preaching. Children learn from how we act, things we say and what we do.
4. Pray for and with them
This is one of the most important tips on this list. Put them in prayers daily for guidance and direction and also encourage them to join you in prayers.
5. Teach them
Regardless of the religion you practice, teach your children the way they should go. Study with them.
6. Build a safe village around them
What they watch, who they associate with, the content they consume, the people around you. All these have impact in shaping how a child ends up. Do you have people that use curse words ‘jokingly’? It’s time to step back from them for the sake of your child and his future.
7. Be their friend
The communication line should be kept open and welcome them to tell you or ask you anything. That way, you are always in the know how what is going on with them and you can easily step in to steer them in the right direction.
