Did you know? Cabbage leaves can help reduce the pain hat comes breast engorgement! If you are planning on weaning soon, this article will guide you on how to relieve the breast pain.

Many breastfeeding mums  swear by cabbage leaves cold compress even though Researchers do not know how it works. There is either  a property within the cabbage leaf itself that helps to reduce the pain and swelling, or the pain goes down because the cabbage acts as a cold compress. Either way, it works.

How to Use Cabbage Leaves

Cold compress generally is soothing whether using a cold wash cloth or cold cabbage leaves. Here’s how to use cabbage leaves reduce breast pain and engorgement.

1. Refrigerate the Cabbage Leaves

For maximum effect, you need the leaves cold. So place them in the refrigerator for a while

2. Peel
You don’t need the outer layer, Peel them off and pull out the inner ones. Place the remaining back into the refrigerator so it can be useful next time you need it.
3. Rinse

Rinse off the two leaves you pulled out to make sure they are dirt free and clean from insects, pesticides and more.

4. Pat Gently

Removes excess water by patting leaves dry with a clean wash cloth.

5. Cut off the Stem

Carefully cut out the stem from the center of the leaves without cutting each into two pieces. This means after cutting, you should still have one piece each with a slit. This will help fit easily over your breasts without covering your nipples.

6. Place in your bra

Place the leaves in your bra avoiding them staying on your nipple. By doing this, your nipple stays dry and intact.

7. Press gently

8. Leave the leaves in your bra for 20 minutes  or when they become warm. If you are still breastfeeding, don’t leave them for that long. once you feel better take them out. Else, they dry up your milk completely.

9. Dispose

You can’t reuse already used leaves so dispose them after each use.

10. Repeat

Repeat this process every time you are engorged until you begin to get some relief and feel better.
