What is Dream Feeding and How Does It Work?

Babies need a lot of sleep and feeding. So what do you do when the needs overlap? You dream feed!

what is dream feeding and how does it work?

Dream feeding is simply feeding a half asleep baby without waking them up. This ensures the baby isn’t fully aroused and eliminates the struggle of resettling the baby after feeding while also ensuring they get the nutrients they need.

How to Dream Feed a baby

Gently tease your baby’s upper lip with the nipples so they can open up their mouth to feed without necessarily waking up. You can also tickle the feet or dab the forehead with a wet washcloth to arouse the baby.

Once you have enough access into the he baby’s mouth, trust in the breast while ensuring the areola is covered or at least, most of it is to ascertain  a good latch. If you are bottle feeding, follow the same approach.

Keep the lights off and voices low. Movement should be at the barest minimum to ensure the baby doesn’t wake up.

Allow your baby to feed until they’re done. Ensure to Burp the baby before placing back into the crib.
