In honor of the recently celebrated Mother’s day, I will like to give out some recipes to help ease the cost of buying ‘baby-foods’ especially during this period. These are recipes are in smooth and pureed forms and is specifically for children with preferences for such.
Firstly, you are not a bad mother if your child repeatedly refuses to try other foods apart from particular one(s). Children are different, genetics actually matter; we are after all a combination of different make-ups. For instance, there is an identical set of twins where one refuses all other foods except those pureed and smooth while the other eats everything he sees being eaten. Would one say their mother did not do a good job of introducing new foods at the right time? No, it will be wrong to judge accordingly.
Secondly mum, your child will be fine. Just keep giving your little one (lo) whatever he or she takes willingly or needs some encouragement to take but please, never force-feed. If you are not careful, you may cause the child’s aversion to eating generally. Keep offering other forms of texture everyday. One day, he or she will take it. Also, give supplements as directed by your child’s physician.
These recipes were formulated putting in mind to ensure your child’s food is diversified therefore has access to varied and necessary nutrients.
RECIPE 1
Ingredients
1 medium-sized ripe plantain (Not overly ripe)
1 Egg
Palm oil
Small-sized carrot/ medium-sized tomato
Preparation and Cooking Directions:
Wash the plantain, carrot or tomato. Remove the plantain back and cut in slices into a small pot. Add about 1 cup of water. Let it cook for about 4 minutes. While still cooking, break the egg into the pot. Cut the tomato or carrot into the pot. Put about 2-3 drops of palm oil. Leave to cook for about 3 minutes. Then, remove from gas and let it cool down.
After cooling down a bit (not cold please), pour in your blender and blend smooth.
Then, dish into your child’s plate and serve.
NOTE:
You may do without the egg, use mackerel or crayfish instead. Or you may completely do without these and just add your baby’s milk (maybe expressed breast milk) when you are about to serve your child. Or you may probably add milk to familiarize the child to the taste before withdrawing the milk.
Please, do not hesitate to let us know how much your child likes this.
