Should Your Toddler Always See You Naked?

A lot of parents struggle with whether or not their kids should see them naked. Experts say it is okay, but here are some important things to consider.

According to Parents.com, “There’s nothing inherently wrong with being nude with members of your family,” says Paul Abramson, a professor at UCLA focusing on human sexuality. Research is limited but one study found exposure to parental nudity had no harmful effects for kids age 3 to 6.

If you choose to allow family nudity as a Parent, bare these 3 things in mind.

1. Make sure your child is comfortable around you naked

If your child starts closing his or her eyes when you go buff, it’s a sign not to be ignored. or if he shuts the bathroom door, that child wants privacy and isn’t comfortable with family nudity.

2. Set ground rules around nudity

Make your child aware that nudity only applies to your home and family. They have to put on clothes when guests are in. Also make them understand different families permit different things and nudity should be restricted within the family only if you choose to allow it as a Parent.

3. Be open to answering questions

A child’s mind is a curious mind and as  kids approach the age of 3, they start paying attention and getting curious about a lot of things, including the parts of the body. It’s natural for them to have questions. However, remember to keep your answers short and age-appropriate.

What do you find appropriate? Can or should Parents encourage family nudity?
