This is why it is advisable to wait at least 18 months before your next pregnancy.

Most mums that took the poll said they will prefer to wait at least 18 months  before getting pregnant again so they are mentally, physically and financially ready for another baby. World Health Organization’s guidelines recommend women wait between 18 months-24 months as smaller gaps between pregnancies can risk premature birth and infant mortality.

Did you know? Getting pregnant again before 18 months increases your risk for certain health problems for your baby, including:

1. Premature Birth: Having a preterm baby can cause health challenges for babies. The shorter the time between pregnancies, the higher the chances of having premature baby. Why? After childbirth, the body needs to build its nutrient again (like folic acid). Getting pregnant too soon will abort this process

2. Low birthweight: This means the baby may be smaller than its gestational age i.e. the average based on the number of weeks he’s been in the womb.

How to space your Pregnancies

Contraceptives! Birth control is the surest way to avoid pregnancies till you are ready (if you are sexually active). Click here to learn all about contraceptives methods and the one best for you!

Are you pregnant already? don’t feel bad! There are also benefits of close pregnancies

Having two pregnancies close together can make it easier if you’re planning to return to a career – you’ll be able to enjoy time with your babies and then start back fresh when they’re a bit older.

You will need to speak to your doctor about it, take care of yourself and use your prenatal vitamins to boost your body nutrients and stay away from stress!

Did you know? Breastfeeding can be used as a Contraceptive Method
